    INTRODUCTION

    In South Africa, healthcare professionals such as doctors and nurses who wish to dispense medicines are required to obtain a licence accredited by the South African Pharmacy Council after a successfully completing of a Dispensing course. Health Advance institute (HAI) is providing online course as an opportunity for Health professionals such as Doctors and Nurses who desire to dispense medicines as according to the Medicines and Related Substances Act 101 of 1965 as amended. HAI is a service provider accredited by the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) to provide the Dispensing Course. The course is aimed at equipping healthcare professionals who wish to dispense medicines with the skills and knowledge required to achieve a dispensing license and competency in dispensing medicine.

    COURSE OBJECTIVES

    The course aims to prepare health professionals with the following dispensing competencies:
    • Ethical, legal and therapeutic considerations in all facets of dispensing.
    • Evaluating the prescription and accessing the patient profile.
    • Dispensing the prescription.
    • Management of procurement and storage of the medicines.
    • Educating patients on medication taking.

    OUTCOMES

    After the successful completion of the course learners will achieve:
    • Dispensing knowledge and competencies
    • Receive a Certificate of Competence which can be used to apply for a Dispensing licence from the National department of health

    COURSE METHODOLOGY

    The dispensing course is presented as online workshop comprising of discussions, practical activities and exercises covering each outcome and enabling the learner to prepare for assessment thereby developing dispensing competences.


    COURSE CONTENT

    • Ethical, legal and therapeutic considerations in all facets of dispensing.
    • Evaluate prescription and access patient profile.
    • Dispense the prescription.
    • Manage the procurement and storage of medicines.
    • Advise patients.

    ASSESSMENT

    The assessment process will be conducted according with the SETA standards where learners will be required to complete a Portfolio of evidence (Formative assessment and summative assessment). The portfolio of evidence will be assessed by SAPC accredited assessors and if a leaner is found not yet competent, one reassessment opportunity will be provided to the learner. Learners must complete the course and all forms of assessments within 6 months.


    ENTRANCE REQUIREMENT

    Previous completion of
    • Health/Science competency (qualification) at NQF Level 6.
    • Relevant medical and pharmacological knowledge at NQF Levels 6 or 7.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Only Doctors, dentists and professional nurses who meet the minimum requirements will be admitted in the course, as stated on the entrance requirements section.

    *THE REGISTRATION FEE INCLUDES

    • Online course
    • Assessment and moderation.
    • Record keeping of learner documents.
    • Health Advance Institute liaison with assessors registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
    • Reporting to the SAPC (ETQA) on the progress of the registered learner.
    • Certificate of competence on successful completion of all training requirements.

    CANCELLATION/ REFUND

    NB: We hereby inform our valued clients that according to our Terms and Conditions of payment, no refunds are offered for any cancellation due to the financial implications associated with logistical arrangements prior any workshop/ training/ course. All cancellations must be communicated to HAI office in writing for the particular booking to be automatically rescheduled for the next workshop/ training/ course or preferably send a substitute who holds an authorisation letter from the previously registered client.

    The workshop agenda is subject to change if, for any reasons beyond the control of the organisers, it becomes necessary to alter the content, times, dates, venue or speakers.
